OSHA Launches Program Aimed at COVID Safety for Construction Workers
In response to a new Executive Order from President Joe Biden, OSHA introduced a new National Emphasis Program that will focus on employers who put workers at risk for exposure to the coronavirus. The program, which is expected to last a year, will prioritize onsite inspections and will target employers that engage in heavy and civil engineering construction and specialty trade contracting.
New Data Shows Increase in Construction Bidding Across the US
Per a new report from Autodesk, the US construction industry may bounce-back even sooner than experts predicted. Comparing numbers to pre-pandemic months, total bid volume was up 15% in November 2020 and 36% in January, with the latter an all-time high on the Autodesk platform. According to construction economist Edward Zarenski, this increase in construction bidding is possibly due to restarts of projects that had been delayed or rescheduled during the pandemic.
Where Quayside Stands Today
Quayside, a waterfront development located in Toronto and originally headed up by Google affiliate Sidewalk Labs is currently in a state of flux. That’s because approximately 10 months ago, Sidewalk Labs made the decision to walk away from the project and Waterfront Toronto, the government agency coordinating. Recently, Waterfront Toronto issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) to identify a new development partner for the project. Learn more here.
Why This Insurance Company Is Offering a Discount to Procore Users
Last summer, it was announced that Travelers Insurance customers in 10 states would be offered a 20% discount off of one year of Procore because the insurance company believed that Procore helped contractors reduce risk on their projects so much that they were willing to incentivize customers towards using the project management platform. Now, Travelers and Procore have collaborated to further expand that program to 38 states, check to see if your state made the list here.
Balfour Beatty Announces its Narrowed the Gender Pay and Bonus Gap Significantly
Earlier this week, Balfour Beatty released its 2020 Gender Pay Report, the findings demonstrate a number of applaudable accomplishments. Not only did Balfour Beatty narrow its mean and median gender pay gap by 6% and 8% respectively, but it also increased the number of female graduate and apprentice recruits, with the figure now standing at 27%, a 5% increase from 2019. Procore Hires New Senior Director for its Global Channel
Procore recently announced that they had hired Autodesk veteran, Clare Wharrier to head up its first global channel program. Wharrier comes with over 16 years of professional know-how, working as a Sales Senior Manager in her last six years at Autodesk. In a public statement Procore VP of Global Partnerships and Alliances Kris Lengieza said, “Clare’s experience in the construction technology industry will be an invaluable asset to our future growth internationally as we launch and grow our reseller program”.
